RE: Case of the Herky-Jerkies

I feel your pain. Same thing here with my 04 2500HD. I've gone round and round with the dealer. I say it's missing and they say the computer does show it. Finally got them to listen and they agree it misses. They tried alot of things and got rid of a lot of it. It's out of warrenty now so I endure. Some of it is the spacing of cracks etc. on the road. But chucking and missing feel different. And it does feel like someone is setting your brakes.

Kansas to Portland, Or to San Fran and back

Does anyone have a good route from the middle of Kansas to Oregon, down the coast to San Francisco then back to Kansas via the warm route? I'm thinking of getting to Oregon before the winter sets in and then travel the coast to SF. Then come around the south side of the Rockies in maybe December and sneak back into Kansas from the south between early winter storms. Information on any part of the trip would be appreciated. How late in the year would you hope to get over the rockies going west?
Thanks
Jeff

RE: Vent cover replacement

It's all done from the inside except sliding the vent cover into place. One problem I encountered was that when the hinges were mated they didn't. The dealer told me to spray with lube so they "break over" but I never got it to work. I finally drove a round tent stake through the vent hinge and opened it up. Worked fine then.

Awning repair

My neighbor has a dometic awning. The shaft on the release end is broken. The shaft looks like a 1/2" or 5/8" aluminum pipe. It is broke where the bolt that holds it to the bracket passes thru. Is this a field repairable part? Has anyone seen it done?
Thanks

RE: Hooking up for the first time

Look in the front side basement door for a rocker switch. That's still a heavy trailer to be horsing up by hand. And your manual crank may not work unless you disconnect the motor drive or disengage the gears.

Propane detector yellow

My propane detector changes to yellow (replace) periodically. DW stopped to pick up a new one and they didn't have one but said that if the batteries get wet it can cause it. The batteries are less than 2 years old. We are on shore power. I've read that certain chemical will give false alarms but nothing about 'yellow'. Does anyone have any answers??
thanks

RE: What tools are essential?

One thing I seem to use all the time is an battery screw driver. And most diffinately look to see what screws hold your trailer together (doors, drawers and cabinets) and get one of those bits. Mine has the Robertson square drive and your out of luck if you don't have one.

Vent cover hinges won't

Tried to install new covers. I have the hinges that are two tubes twisted together so the cover half rolls in the trailer half. Clear as mud huh. The tubes are 9" long. When I slid one in the other the hinge would not operate; I'm not talking hard to operate, I mean the cover would not operate. I was afraid of breaking the cover so I quit. Had to patch the old cover and put it all back together. The new is an exact match to the old. The dealer suggested I lube with silicone, but to me it is not a lube problemand I reluctant to tear it all apart again. The curls are mismatched. Anyone else have this problem and find a cure?

RE: 5vr bike rack idea

Receiver hitch off the pin box with Soft Ride bike rack. You see your bikes all the time. A few bugs but who looks.

RE: TV Antenna

I had the crank fall off on my antennea. The directional ring and spring came with it. It is fasten with an allen head set screw. Could the handicap extention be pushed onto the shaft too far and holding the ring solid? Check to see if the extention has a set screw, loosen it and see if it will come off. The ring will follow. Reset the position of the extention and see if it works.

RE: Bike rack for square bumper

I had a friend make a receiver to bolt to my Springdale bumper. I used bungie cords to stabilze them. Used it for a while but I couldn't see the bikes and I didn't like that. So I took it off and had one made for the front. Now I can see the bikes and I think they ride better.

RE: Dumbest thing you've ever done while RVing with your Rig?

My first backing into the yard I was watching the pin box to make sure it wouldn't hit the side of the bed. "Bang" and everything went foggy just before the rear window disintegrated. The cap hit the window before the pin box hit the bed. I carry some of the glass fragments in a clear Christmas ball on the rear view mirror to remind me, now.

RE: Shower sprays cold....

My two cents. The water supply is near the shower. The hot has to travel to the other end of the trailer and back therefore it has less pressure at the faucet. Maybe not much but just enough to over power the hot and feed the trickel that is coming out the shower head. When you turn the water back on you have a hose full of cold water.

RE: Unhooking fifth wheel with no help!

When you pull out from under your 5er be sure to measure to the ground so you can reset the pin to the same height when you are ready to hook up. Saves backing, looking, leveling, etc.

prodigy brake control

Just bought a new Prodigy brake control to replace my old Voyager controller. The wires into the old unit are red white black and blue. Does the new unit match the old colors. Is there anything I need to watch for when I change it out and set it up. I'm pulling an 9000 pound 5er with a 3/4 ton HD silverado.
Thanks,
Jeff

I10 east of Lafayette, La, what is it

I10 appears to run down a canal for 20 plus miles east of Layayette, La. What is it and why did they do it?
Just curious.

RE: HELP!! Even the experts can't figure this out.....

I don't know if you have fixzed the problem or if you are still monitoring this but here my tale. I had the same problem. I could stick a snake down the stool and hear it flop around in the tank but couldn't clear it. A neighbor sent me in the right direction. Our toilet had a 'bowl' under the slide valve. When it used the snake it just coiled up in this bowl. As soon as I figured this out and sent the snake down into the 4" pipe the clog disappeared.
I now use more water and put 5 or more gallons in the black when I travel to keep things stirred up. I dump at the next site.

water heater anode rod

How often do you replace your anode rod in the heater? So far I've repalced it every year but it still looks like it has more than half of the mag let on it.

RE: Black Water Holding Tank Plugged Up

I had the same problem once. I ran a snake down the toilet and cranked the handle. I could hear it bouncing around in the 'tank'. I could open the drain valve and run a hose in the tank and it was clear. Now that makes you think. A neighbor finally pointed out that the snake was only going into the lower bowl of the toilet; under the flush valve but above the elbow going into the tank. Once I got the snake pointed in the right direction the drain opened up and I flushed and cleaned the tank. I now flush and look and flush to make sure everything goes down.
